Summer Concerts 2003 ~~~ Schedule

July 5th, 3:00pm, Cacapon State Park (only concert at this time & location)

Possum Holler ~~ Led by songwriter and vocalist Tori Anderson, this five piece group has become one of the most popular in the region and recently cut their first CD. Their grab bag of original tunes include sounds of blues, torch and swing with a touch of country which makes sense since all the band members write songs either individually or in collaboration. They fit the radio play category of Americana.

July 12th, 5:30pm, Berkeley Springs State Park (rain location The Ice House)

Road to the Isles ~~ The five-person Road to the Isles performs the bagpipe and fiddle music, dance, and folksong traditions of Scotland and Ireland. With dance performances that include the sword dance, highland fling, sean triubhas, Irish reel and jig, slip jig, and hornpipe, complemented by songs, stories, and instrumental solos and duets, Road to the Isles transports the audience to the lochs and glens of the Celtic lands of old. The band will do a workshop before the concert to introduce the audience to the dance styles of Scotland and Ireland.

July 19th, 5:30pm, Berkeley Springs State Park

Funk Me Fester! ~~ Funk Me, Fester! is a four-piece band consisting of Jeff Kauffman, Uncle Brother, Phil Montgomery, and Brother T-Roy. How these four men from different states got together is a mystery, even to them. Their collective music style is not definable, other than to say that this is an eclectic band of four excellent musicians, three of whom are also superior song writers. Every show is a bit different, sometimes emphasizing acoustic guitars, other times playing wild jamming jazz or rock or Latin rhythms on electric guitars always with a percussion back-up.

July 26th, 5:30pm, Berkeley Springs State Park

Mama Jama ~~ Since 1990, the seven member Mama Jama have been intoxicating Chesapeake Bay music lovers with their eclectic blend of rock, reggae, calypso and blues. The band plays everywhere, from week-long performances at local venues and benefit concerts to the Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival. The band's hybrid juju-reggae-funk sound and infectious mix of African, Caribbean and American polyrhythms are drawn from the varied backgrounds of the four principal members and the instruments they play including guitars. keyboard and a collection of percussion.

August 2nd, 5:30pm, Berkeley Springs State Park

Voxology ~~ Accompanying themselves on banjo and guitar, the vocals of this Pennsylvania duo boast harmonies that are intricate, yet smooth as silk. Les & Kevin bring distinctly different musical backgrounds together to make Voxology a musical experience which pleases audiences of all ages and ranges in genre from traditional roots music to formal bluegrass and original songs.

August 9th, 5:30pm, Berkeley Springs State Park

VooDoo Katz ~~ A spicy brew of worldly flavors with influences from Africa to the Caribbean, this funky culture-blending ensemble of six West Virginia musicians gets the audience dancing with spine wigglin' grooves, exotic melodies and an atmosphere of infectious participation. Noted precussionist, Ahmed Solomon is backed up by bass, sax and guitar. They give a nod to their state roots with a smile-producing Mothman song.

August 16th, , 5:30pm, Berkeley Springs State Park

Big Blow & the Bushwackers ~~ The five member Big Blow and the Bushwackers formed on Maryland's eastern shore to explore the musical possibilities of the Didjiridu, a native Australian instrument. In concert the group has fun with traditional ballads, dance songs from many cultures, improvisations which involve the audience, plus a large dose of their own funny, pop-satire material. Concerts are active, involving, high energy shows that allow the audience to become a part of the bushwhacking experience. Their instruments are brassy: sax, trombone, tuba and trumpet; traditional: accordion, mandolin and harmonica; and downright bizarre: slido didj and floppophone.

August 23, 5:30pm, Berkeley Springs State Park

The Kennedys ~~ Put two great guitarists together and the musical and personal chemistry sizzles. That's how it has always been for the organic, rocking unit of Pete and Maura Kennedy. Pete had created his own eclectic style from years of touring with the likes of Mary Chapin Carpenter, Nancy Griffith, and on his own, then he went to Austin and hooked up with Maura. They still live there. The duo's musical and literary tastes are showcased in their original songs and derive from extended touring in the British Isles. Their acoustic and l lyric-centered repertoire can be described as part Yeats, part Rubber Soul.
