Bountiful Harvest
Bountiful Harvest, an multi-media exhibit featuring eight artists and their work of and about food opens at the Ice House on Friday, October 1 with a special reception from 7:30 to 9pm. Produced by the Morgan Arts Council. the gala opening is the second stop on a downtown Artwalk and the main feature for Berkeley Springs’ First Friday activities. Bountiful Harvest continues on display through November 14. The Artwalk begins at 5pm at Mountain Laurel with a meet-the-artist reception for Magic. The exhibit features the stained glass kaleidescopes of Jim and Jonnette Kirkwood. Mountain Laurel is once again included among the top 100 galleries in America. Among the dozens of pieces showcased in Bountiful Harvest are “It’s the berries” earrings from Linda Sorensen and hand carved and painted food with an atttude by Ray Briscoe. Among the work of local artists in the show are food images on quilts by Ann Darling; leaf plates, bowls and platters by Sandy Kaye and photographs of food markets by Diane Petersen. Rounding out the eight artists are Pam Cummings showing Oriental style pottery, Teddi Metz presenting whimsical watercolors with thought provoking sayings and fruit shaped wood cutting boards from Robert Starry. “We’ve done a couple shows blending food and art in the past,” said Jane Frenke who curated Bountiful Harvest. “They’ve been among our most popular.” The Ice House Gallery special exhibit is funded through grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the West Virginia Commission on the Arts and local hotel/motel tax revenues. The Ice House is located on the corner of Independence and Mercer streets. The gallery is open from 11am to 5pm Saturdays and Sundays; plus Fridays through the end of October.
