American Landscapes
Nearly a dozen artists exhibit their landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes at the Ice House Gallery, launching the American Landscapes show with a gala reception on Friday, June 6 at 7:30pm. The show opening is centerpiece of the Morgan Arts Council's Gallery Walk which includes stops at both Mountain Laurel and Tari's Cafe and Gallery. Refreshments are provided at the reception and throughout the walk. The Gallery Walk begins on Washington Street at Tari's Cafe and Gallery from 5 to 6pm when people are invited in for a sneak preview of more than dozen female artists who will be featured in a two-day Wild Women Hit the Streets sale in front of the cafe on Saturday and Sunday. On the corner of the square, Mountain Laurel hosts visitors from 5 to 7:30pm with "Nature and Its Beautiful Simplicity" where Tameria Martinez exhibits and demonstrates her unique relief and carved pottery designs. Rated one of the 100 best craft galleries in America, Mountain Laurel offers two floors of regional and American art crafts. Watercolorist Lynn Ferris curated the American Landscape show. "I wanted to bring artists with national reputations whose work is not often seen by people in Berkeley Springs," said Ferris. The eleven artists selected work in watercolor, oil and gouache, an opaque pigment. Work is available for sale. Steve Zazenski ia an artist Ferris found at an Ocean City landscape show. He has won numerous awards for his watercolor landscapes of New England, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and his work is in prestigious public and private collections including the Library of Congress. Nostlagic lithographs of his growing up years are very popular and have been used on various television shows. Zazenski lives in New Hope, Pennsylvania. American Landscape hangs at the Ice House Gallery through July 13. The Ice House Gallery is open Saturdays and Sundays from 11 to 5. The Ice House Gallery exhibit is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, West Virginia Commission on the Arts and local hotel/motel tax revenues. The Ice House is located on the corner of Mercer and Independence streets in downtown Berkeley Springs, one of America's 100 best small art towns and voted #12 art destination in America. |
