Quilt

An exhibition of contemporary and traditional quilts.

One of the featured items at the gallery exhibit is the debut of the 30th annual Apple Butter Festival quilt by Rika Bennett. Also on display is the quilt by Jane Frenke recently selected for the American Quilter's Society show in Paducah, Kentucky. The poster quilt will also be on display. "Winding Ways," by Isabella Young is hand pieced, hand quilted and representative of hundreds of hours of work. It was begun with scraps at a quilting workshop two years ago. Young added a challenge fabric from Africa and various prints.

The quilt show hangs through June 1 and can be seen on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 5pm. A Demonstration Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 10 from noon to 2pm with examples of hand and machine quilting and applique, embroidery, red work and fabric dying. For collectors and non quilters, red work is the current rage. It is red embroidery thread outlining a printed picture on the cloth which is then sashed with other fabric and quilted.

The Ice House Gallery exhibit is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, West Virginia Commission on the Arts and local hotel/motel tax revenues.
