Dr. Geoffrey Wright & the Peabody Computer Music Consort in Concert
Blazing new trails in music, Dr. Geoffrey Wright and the Peabody Computer Music Consort return to Berkeley Springs for a free evening concert on Thursday, October 7 at 7:30pm featuring original computer generated music. The Consort will be completing two days of work with students at Berkeley Springs High School as part of the Morgan Arts Council’s Adopt-a-School program. The public concert also takes place at the high school. “The concert will offer students the chance to share with their parents and neighbors what they’ve been discovering the past two days,” said Larry Springer, a Morgan Arts Council board member who arranged for the concert. “There will be opportunities during the concert to discuss composing music with computers. It’s an important new direction for music.” Dr. Wright is a futurist, composer and educator who founded the computer music department at Peabody. His compositions in various forms from chamber music to dance and video have been performed across the world. Dr. Wright will be joined by other members of the Consort performing music generated by computers. “Dr, Wright was here last year as part of Yesterday’s Tomorrows,” said Springer. “This year, MAC wanted to bring the entire group back for the community to hear. It’s very exciting to be doing such cutting edge art in Berkeley Springs.” The Morgan Arts Council’s Adopt-a-School program has presented more than 870 artists in all nine Morgan County schools since 1978 often presenting the same artist to the whole community in an evening performance. The accompanying public concerts and the Adopt-a-School program are supported by the West Virginia Commission on the Arts, local hotel/motel tax funds, the Morgan County School Board and local donors. |
