AFTERSCHOOL ARTS CLASSES AT ICE HOUSE

BERKELEY SPRINGS, WV -----Dance continues to be a featured activity at the Morgan Arts Council's (MAC) afterschool program with two classes planned. Joey Eliseo is teaching a dance workshop for students six and older on Fridays and a new movement for theater class on Thursdays for students 11 and older. "With all the interest in youth theater, we thought theater movement would be an excellent addition," said Mary Hott, MAC's Executive Director. "Having a dance teacher like Jodey available who has an impressive background as a performer in Broadway musicals including 'Cats' made it an easy class to add."

Visual arts are also on the class schedule. On Wednesdays, Jennie McBee teaches the popular Arts and Crafts Sampler for children ages5 and older. "The younger children love this class," said Hott. "They create a different project each week." Jane Ping returns with a Friday class on printmaking for children ages seven and older.

Classes begin the week of February 26 and extend for eight weeks. Registrations are now being taken.

"MAC has more youth theater classes planned for April and May," said Hott. "There are three days of classes for all ages including a new video production class." Hott also mentioned the remaining ten weeks of Art Saturday classes for youth. "Both theater and a variety of visual arts classes are still on the schedule for every Saturday through June," she said.

All classes in the fall afterschool program are held from 3:30-5pm in the Ice House. Several school buses stop at the Ice House located at Independence and Mercer. Registration flyers have been delivered to all county schools below the high school level, are available on www.macicehouse.org and may be picked up at the Morgan County Public Library and Boys and Girls Club. Call 258-2300 for more information or to receive registration forms in the mail. Scholarships are available to cover partial tuition, there are sibling discounts and snacks and materials are included in the costs.

MAC's highly praised Ice HouseYouth Art Project is starting its eighth year and is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, West Virginia Commission on the Arts, local hotel/motel tax funds and donations from MAC members. MAC is a United Way Agency.
