MEET-THE-ARTIST RECEPTION AT THE ICE HOUSE
BERKELEY SPRINGS, WV ----Visitors to the Ice House Gallery are calling "Landscape and the Tactile Imagination" a “gorgeous” show. On Friday, February 17 from 7 to 8:30pm, the public has the opportunity to meet the five artists whose work makes up the exhibit. The show can also be seen during regular gallery hours: 11am to 5pm every Saturday and Sunday through February 26.
The dramatic and colorful paintings of Cynthia Fraula Hahn immediately capture the eye of most visitors. Fraula Hahn, an adjunct professor at Shepherd University is also displaying work of charcoal on paper.
The lush glazes fired to high temperatures on clay vessels by Nancy Bishop of Berryville have proven very popular with visitors to the gallery. “I wanted to get one of the porcelain vases for a friend,” said Lynn Lavin, a MAC board member who handles many gallery tasks, “but it was already sold. Nancy told me she was not going to do pottery any more so what we have left in the show are rare pieces.”
The show is curated by Dr. Geraldine Kiefer, an art historian and artist on the faculty of Shenandoah University in Winchester. Other artists on exhibit are Don Banks and Ting-Yu Chen.
Funding for the exhibit is provided in part by the WV Commission on the Arts and hotel/motel taxes from the town and county. The Ice House is located on Independence and Mercer in downtown Berkeley Springs. For more information check online at www.macicehouse.org or call 304-258-2300.
