POET TO HOST WRITERS FORUM

BERKELEY SPRINGS, WV ----The Morgan Arts Council (MAC) presents a public writers evening at the Ice House on Thursday, November 10, 7:30pm hosted by noted West Virginia poet, author and musician, Colleen Anderson.

Anderson begins the evening with a brief talk on "Bridging the Gap Between Cultures" then opens the floor to others who want to present poetry, prose or songs related to the theme.  "We ask that anyone wanting to read limits their work to no more than three minutes," said Mary Hott, MAC's Executive Director.  "Colleen has graciously agreed to review all the work to be read."  Hott directed participants to the MAC website for details of how to submit work to Anderson.  "It needs to be in by November 8," she said. No one is required to read in order to attend.

Thursday's public event concludes Anderson's week working with 5th grade classes at Pleasant View, Greenwood, Warm Springs Intermediate School and Paw Paw through MAC's Adopt-a-School program.   Each of the students and teachers receive his/her own copy of "Love That Dog" by Sharon Creech during the workshop, a bonus made possible through memorial donations in the name of Julia Belton and Friends of the Library.   "Our school programs this year focus on poetry through collaboration with the William Belton family," said Hott, "as well as on MAC's theme of tolerance and diversity."

The public writers' evening is funded in part by the WV Humanities Council as well as the WV Commission on the Arts.  The Ice House is located at Independence and Mercer in downtown Berkeley Springs.  For more information call 304-258-2300 or check online at www.macicehouse.org.
