OSCAR WILDE OPENS AT THE ICE HOUSE
BERKELEY SPRINGS, WV ---- "The Importance of Being Earnest," by Oscar
Wilde, opens at the Ice House on Friday, April 23, 7:30pm for seven
shows. Other performances run through May 2: Fridays and Saturdays at
7:30pm, Sundays at 3pm, and a pay-what-you-can evening on Thursday
April 29 at 7pm. It is staged as part of the Morgan Arts Council's
Ice House Theater Project.
"Earnest" was subtitled by Wilde as a trivial comedy for serious
people. Although it is set in the late Victorian period in London,
where it debuted in 1895, the ridiculous situations two young couples
find themselves in due to mistaken identities are still funny. "This
is one of my all time favorite comedies," said director, Margi
Griffith. "The humor is delicious and delightful. The characters are
so serious about the mixed up situation that it is funny to watch them
try to get themselves out of scrape after scrape."
The eight-person ensemble cast includes two teen actors familiar to
Ice House audiences: Dia Griffiths and Trenten Derryberry. Both are
graduating seniors and are preparing to go to college in arts fields.
The play is sponsored by Panorama at the Peak and BB&T. To make
reservations, call 304-258-2300. Visitwww.macicehouse.org for
complete details.
The Ice House is located on Independence and Mercer streets in
downtown Berkeley Springs.
