HISTORIC PHOTOGRAPHS TO BE SHOWN AT ICE HOUSE

BERKELEY SPRINGS, WV ---- On Saturday, September 18 at 10am, Betty Lou
Harmison and Jeanne Mozier present a show and chat about a sampling of
the historic photographs of Berkeley Springs they have been
collecting. The pair are researching an "Images of Berkeley Springs"
book to be published by Arcadia Publishing before summer 2011. The
show is held in the Paradox Room at the Ice House.

"We have scanned about three times as many local photographs as we
need for the book," said Mozier. "We hope to have all the photos to
be considered for publication collected by the end of October. Then
we can choose and start writing." Although they have enough photos,
"we are always looking for that perfect one," said Harmison. "We need
to send the publisher as many as ten possibilities for a cover
photo." They are hoping that people in the community who may have
only one or two old photos will come forward.

There are guidelines for the photos as given by the publisher. The
cut-off time is about 1970 although there will be photos used of the
1974 Washington Hotel fire.
"Surprisingly, we are short on photos from the 1940s through 1970,"
said Mozier. The focus is primarily on Berkeley Springs although
farming and river photos go out into the county.

"It's been so much fun and people have been very generous letting us
come over and scan their pictures," said Harmison. "We could do
another book on just the stories." Harmison's own collection of
photographs along with that of the Museum of the Berkeley Springs
provide the core of the book.

The hour long presentation is free. People are invited to bring their
photographs which can be scanned on the spot. "Once we are done, all
the photos collected will be stored on disks and kept available at the
Museum and the Historical Society," said Mozier. "This is a
preservation effort for the whole community."

The Ice House is located on Independence and Mercer in downtown
Berkeley Springs.
