"LAST HANGING IN NEW JERSEY" STAGED AT ICE HOUSE
BERKELEY SPRINGS, WV ---- The Morgan Arts Council (MAC) is taking
reservations for the staged reading of "Last Hanging in New Jersey,"
an original play written and directed by Jeanne Mozier. The reading,
along with scenes from several other plays, is scheduled for the Ice
House on Saturday, March 19 at 7:30pm and Sunday, March 20 at 3pm.
The playwright talks about the play after the Sunday show.
The twelve cast members are all students in the "Building Community
Theater" adult acting class taught by Kirsten Trump. "It was an ideal
match," said Mary Hott, MAC's Executive Director. "There were enough
parts for all the class members and the people matched the parts."
Students also are performing scenes from several other plays that have
been part of their classwork including "Angels in America" and
"Wit.". Trump promised there is comedy as well. "Matt Hahn and Ron
Tebben perform a scene from a very funny Richard Dresser play," she
said. "People have worked hard and developed their skills well during
the class."
"Last Hanging in New Jersey" is based on a true family story set in
the early years of the 20th century. It is a tale of murder, lust,
union troubles and the Black Hand. "Considering the subject matter of
the staged reading and several of the scenes to be presented," said
Trump. "we decided to announce the show for mature audiences."
Class members participating in the staged reading and performing
scenes are Susie Allen, Denise Bergen, Sandy Bienen, Stacy Dugan,
Sheila Fizer, Matt Hahn, Jane McCloud, Greg McGrath, Russell Mokhiber,
Ron Tebben, Jan Wineburg, and Barb Wolfe. Hannah Salman is also
performing.
Mozier wrote the script as part of a MAC-produced playwriting class in
2010 and took last fall's directing class as well.
The production is sponsored by the Star Theatre. Funding is provided
in part by the West Virginia Commission on the Arts. Reservations may
be made by calling 304-258-2300. The Ice House is located at
Independence and Mercer in downtown Berkeley Springs.
