YOUTH THEATER AND FILM CLASS IN PAW PAW
BERKELEY SPRINGS, WV -- The Morgan Arts Council (MAC) begins an
afterschool program in theater and video open to every Paw Paw student
in grades 5 through 12. The class starts on April 12 and continues
every Monday through the end of the school year. "We're able to offer
this expanded and exciting program at a nominal cost thanks to a
special grant from the Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation,"
said Mary Hott, MAC's Executive Director.
Taught by Gary McDaniel, the class focuses on the students writing and
talking about their lives and school and includes writing scripts,
acting out what they wrote, and filming the entire production.
McDaniel is a Morgan County school social worker and theater
professional who often uses acting techniques to work with students in
developing some of the most critical skills for academic, social and
personal success.
"MAC has done two years of weeklong summer camps," said Hott. "This
fall we extended our presence in the schools with the first section of
McDaniel's class focused mostly on teens. Spring is an expanded
version and includes younger students."
Pre-registration is encouraged and can be done at the Paw Paw School
administrative office or online at www.macicehouse.org. "Students can
simply show up on Monday," said Hott. For questions, call 304-258-2300.
